public history of slavery
and freedom
About the Festival
The festival is open to anyone conducting researches in the area of human and social sciences, on the subject of slave trade, slavery, its memories and legacies, and using the audiovisual medium to disseminate the research results. The festival also aims to encourage, publicize and promote film productions that address these issues.
As an extension of the “Research International Film Festival - Culture, Diaspora, Citizenship”, the festival aims to give continuity and visibility to the exhibitions of works related to the theme, throughout the second half of 2017.
The exhibitions will begin on August 29th, in an event that will celebrate 10 years of the film "Jongos, Calangos and Folias: Black Music, Memory and Poetry". We will have three more meetings until the end of the year.
The festival is hosted by the Laboratory of Oral History and Image (LABHOI), located in the History Department of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF).
